OMG you guys - Blake's 7 poised for Sky comeback!!

I've never seen Blake's 7, except the very last bit, set to music, as made by D2. But I'm still feeling the love :)

I went to look at more houses on Saturday. I saw about 7, but I didn't like any of them. I've decided that, given that I'm starting my new job in 4 weeks, my priority has to be finding somewhere to live in the short-term, rather than worrying about the long-term plan to buy somewhere. So I'm going to find somewhere to rent for six months, and I'll start looking to buy again once I'm settled and not homeless. Having been (technically) homeless for a few weeks last year, it's a situation I'm very keen never to be in again. I was lucky last time, and could stay with a friend from work during the week, returning to my mother's at weekend. I won't be able to do that with the new job, as I don't know anyone, so I have to have somewhere to live.

It's an expensive business, renting a flat, especially on your own. But I've got no choice. Well, no, I could go into a shared house, but I hate sharing with strangers, especially when you're a lodger, in an essentially weak position, living in a house which isn't yours. I hate that, and I won't do it again.

So for the next few weeks, my focus will all be on the move. I'm going to have to clean this flat too, and get rid of anything I'm not taking, sort out and pack what I am taking, take the bed and wardrobe apart etc. It's all very tiresome.

I haven't driven my car again since I brought it back from the showroom. I was going to go out today, but then it snowed (!!), and I don't think I'm quite up to driving in snow and ice. It's all pretty much melted now, but our car park is filling up already. It doesn't have enough spaces for the cars that live here, and so is always packed with cars parked in random, inconvenient places and therefore really difficult to navigate. I don't think I'm quite up to adventurous parking yet either, so it's probably best to just stay in today and go for a drive tomorrow while everyone's at work and the car park's empty!

I sorted out my car insurance today - that was a new experience. They were very nice though. I also went to Tesco and bought a squeegee to wipe the snow off the car! Apart from that, though, it's been a slow, boring day. I feel like I've got a hundred things to do, but I can't remember what any of them are. Well, except one - I'm meant to be writing a fic for a challenge, but I seem to have forgotten, when I signed up, that I haven't actually written anything for over three years, and the reason for that is I just don't feel like writing any more. Why I thought this particular challenge would change anything is anyone's guess, but it hasn't changed anything. I don't want to drop out, but .. I just don't feel like writing at the moment.

Flatmate!N is working her way through Buffy at the moment - she's just into season 5. She's trying to power through to the end before I leave, as they're my DVDs. I've thought about watching s6 again - skipping past the dull bits with Spike and Buffy, obviously - to see if I can remember the old Trio love, but then I just remember how terrible it all was and how much better our stuff was than the canon stuff, and it puts me right off.

Ah well. For now I'm just going to watch the Women's European Gymnastics Championships.

I also caught up on some TV this morning. I watched the new: CSI, BSG, and Doctor Who.

CSI s8 ep12: Grissom's Divine Comedy )

BSG s4 ep1: something long and religious, I forget )

Doctor Who s4 ep1: Partners in Crime )

So that's what I've been up to today.

There's some more work stuff that's been going on, which culminates in me getting "talked to" on Tuesday when I go back in about my subversive efforts to turn the staff against the management and convince them all to quit (*rolls eyes*), but it's all quite dull so I won't go in to it. Suffice to say I'm quite glad I'm off on Monday. Once of my replacements (there are now three, I think) has been appointed and is starting on Monday - it'll be interesting to hear how that goes, since I won't be there.

Oh work.

Being a grown up is really hard :( I want to go back to Uni for a few years. Only being paid my current salary. Could that be arranged?

Awesome :)

I picked up a copy of season 3 of BSG at Tesco this morning for £33, I've spent this afternoon catching up on my fic reading, then I watched two awesome episodes of Stargate: Atlantis, now Stargate (the film) is on, and after that it's Back to the Future III.

Today is made of awesome :D

Normal people do not understand this sort of joy, but life is good.

Gosh, what a weekend. I'm utterly knackered! I'll write a proper post about it later, but now I must go and find something to eat. Mmmm, proper food.

*yawn* Up to 2am ... well, all right, no. I fell asleep for half an hour, but in my defence [livejournal.com profile] maryavatar and [livejournal.com profile] odycee were talking about dead animals and .. well, you probably would've fallen asleep too, unless you're a biologist.

It's been quite nice so far. There are only 178 people here, so it's all really quiet and there are no queues! The stewards are as Nazi-ish as they were before, ordering us into tightly packed, silent queues for the photo sessions, even though they'd only sold 45 tickets and all 45 people were in the room with plenty of space to spare. The steward herself admitted that she was only doing it to seem like she had something to do. So that annoyed me a bit, but the photo sessions themselves were fine - we went through really quickly, as there were only 45 people there!

The guests all seem nice, and I've just about got my head around who they all are. I got photos with Felix and Helo. It's quite disappointing that CKR isn't here, but I suppose it doesn't matter that much really. Cee and I went in for Felix's talk (sorry, I can't spell his real name, or his character's surname! What a bad fan I am), which was nice, but apart from that we haven't heard any of the talks. I think they're going okay though. They've blocked off half the main hall, so everyone is really close to the stage and you can get a really good view wherever you're sitting. The photos are being done in the other side of the hall.

We're sitting around chatting now, and I think we're heading down for the auction soon, which should be amusing because there are so few people here! I've never been to such a small con. It's quite cool.

Haven't booked a ticket for Peg3 yet. I'm tempted, but I don't want to go on my own. Hmm.

We had another event yesterday about Complementary Medicine, at which one of the speakers was Simon Singh, scientist, pendant and author of international best-seller Fermat's Last Theorum.

Naturally, being something of an ex-maths geek, I was very excited by this, and saddened that I wasn't going to be able to meet the great man himself.

Fortunately my colleagues love and adore me (as they so rightly should), and mentioned my respectful admiration of his work to him. He's going to send me a signed copy of his book!! Eee!! :D

In other news, it appears that I am going to Wolf Galactica 3 in August, as [livejournal.com profile] niannah is unfortunately no longer able to go. So I'm going to spend a weekend being Anna, which should be fun :)

I suppose I'd better get on and watch season 3 then.

I really want some new icons. I haven't uploaded anything new in months and months and months. Does anyone have any recommended comms? I fancy some Life on Mars and some Battlestar Galactica I think, although other ideas are welcome.

Interesting article on the BBC News website, which is basically a bit of pre-publicity for a film, but it's about the pressures astronauts face when they're stuck in space, particularly for long periods of time. In its own right it's an interesting thought, but it made me think about both SGA and BSG. I wonder if that's why they're all a bit crazed. ;)

Also, I saw the new Doctor Who ep on Sunday. A few thoughts, minor spoilers I suppose. )

'Battlestar' gets extended fourth season

Battlestar Galactica's fourth season will now comprise 22 episodes instead of 13, after the Sci Fi Channel increased its order.

The season will commence with a special feature length episode that will be screened towards the end of this year, and be released on DVD shortly afterwards.

That sounds like good news, eh?
