If you were concerned, as JKR appears to have been, that HP fandom would wither and die without fresh canon to whip itself into a frenzy over, fear not! JKR has provided fodder for at least six months of crazy by confirming (or announcing, depending on your POV) that Dumbledore was gay and in love (involved?) with Grindlewald. It seems to be true, in the sense that TLC are reporting it, it's not 1st April, and it's now being carried on a load of international news websites. So there you go.

You've got to admire her - she certainly knows how to generate publicity.

I'm quite pleased about this. I mean, you're right, it's got that cynical aspect to it, but still. Dumbledore ♥ Grindelwald. :D

I wonder if the whole world pretended not to care about HP for a while if she'd decide to tell us about Remus and Sirius?

I'm pleased too - it's really rather amazing to have something like this actually confirmed! It's not all in our heads after all! :) I don't like to assign cynical motives to JKR's actions, but I've read quite a few comments on this now and there are a lot of people pointing out things like why didn't she mention this (explicitly) in the books themselves, rather than months later when everyone's already bought them all? It's still very cool though :) If sad for Dumbledore. Did he ever love again? I hope so.

LOL! It's worth a try, I think!! :)

I agree. There are a lot of things she could have mentioned explicitly in the books but didn't. I'm not sure I am entirely in favour of the general filling in of canon outside of the books themselves, but on the other hand I understand the attraction of doing that for JK herself.

But despite these issues, we can still now say there is one canon same sex pairing in Harry Potter. Phew! Not the couple I would have picked, obviously, but it's a start. :)

I suppose it makes sense really. She's created this whole universe - she can't possibly mention every detail in the books, but when she's asked these things she has the answers in her brain, so she gives them as and when they come up.

It is indeed :)
