Joking aside, I think I may have broken a toe. Do I need to go to A&E, or to a GP? Or perhaps it'll just sort itself out, like when I sprained/fractured/broke my ankle a few years ago.

It's all a bit of a mystery. I'll probably do nothing and hope it goes away.

Go to A&E! If you have broken a toe, you want to get it checked out, so that it heals properly. Otherwise you could be left with a dodgy toe and having bad feet is a serious issue as you get older.

Chis broke his wrist a few years ago and refused to admit it was broken until it was entirely healed and he realised that he now can't turn it properly.

That is true. But it might not even be broken. It doesn't hurt that much, it just sort of tingles weirdly. Hmm.

I don't know. It's probably nothing. It's probably just a bit bruised or whatever. It doesn't hurt that much - if it was really broken it'd hurt really badly, right?

Go to a Minor Injuries Unit. If you have broken it, you'll want it sorted out quicker than if you go to a GP. If you haven't, well, it's always nice to be told and they can treat for bruising, plus you won't feel guilty about going into A&E for something that turns out not to be serious. Don't be misled by the lack of pain. Toes are quite weird like that.

Go to A&E, they can do an Xray so you know if it's just bruised or indeed broken.

Meh, it's a bit of a toss up. You could just go to your local Dr to confirm it's broken, but if it is, they'll just send you to A&E anyway. If you've got time to sit around until you're seen to, I reckon A&E is probably your best bet.

That's a good idea, but I don't think we have one locally. I've searched on the Internet, and we only seem to have the A&E, 5 miles away. They're campaigning for a MIU to be opened here, so presumably there isn't one anywhere near. I think I'll phone NHS Direct though and check.

Go get it checked out! Goodness, sorry for the laughing yesterday. I didn't realise there was actual injury involved. It's worth it to get it checked out. You don't want a lingering injury or a toe that's not properly set or something. Yowch. The very idea makes me sqeamish.

Heh, no, I was laughing yesterday too, but the wrist is feeling better, the knees are better, the other toes are better, and this one toe seems to be a bit swollen and sore. It's probably nothing, but .. well, we'll see.

Yes, probably best to go to see the doctor - although having said that, my friends horse stood on her foot and broke her toe last month and they basically said: go away, it'll heal itself. So - if you don't go it might not be the end of the world - it's not like they can put a cast on a toe!

Yeah, A&E is like an ER. A really slow, really boring ER mostly filled with people who've drunk too much and fallen over.

Yeah, everyone I talked to IRL about it said that - in fact they all had stories about when *they* broke their toe/foot/both legs/face, how much worse it was, and how they still got up and finished the last 25 miles of that marathon. It's quite disappointing really, I was hoping that at least one person would a). express concern for my physical and mental well-being, and b). offer to drive me to A&E. But no.

I think I'll just RICE it for now, and if it gets worse I'll go to the doctors.
