At the end, when time has reset itself, the Doctor says, "One year and one day - just after the President was killed, before the Toclafane arrived". But the Toclafane were the ones who killed the President. So .. how does that work?
The Toclafane who killed the President were already on Earth, having presumably come back with the Master on his TARDIS - the six billion Toclafane hadn't arrived yet.
I think he meant when the Master tore the sky open and the six billion of them arrived.
Do you reckon it was Lucy who took the Master's ring at the end? She had the bright red nail varnish on, I wonder if it was some plan they'd cooked up between them on how to escape and the Master somehow regenerated later or is in the ring maybe?
It must've been Lucy, I think. No one else would've had a). a reason to take the ring, or b). bright red nail polish. When she was shooting him, she didn't really look like she was acting on her own. We've been told over and over how the Master can control people through hypnosis - I think perhaps he set a code in her brain in case things went south, so that the Doctor would think he was dead, but actually he'll come back (as a different actor, no doubt). Or, alternatively, it could be like that New Adventures of Superman storyline where the "dumb blonde" wife actually turns out to be a criminal mastermind far exceeding her (dead) husband's capacity for evil. Who knows! But I suspect we'll find out in season 5 or 6 or 7 ;) They keep finding ways to bring the Daleks and the Cybermen back, I can't imagine they won't find a way to bring the Master back. Again. :)
Just who could play the Master after Simm though? I'm just bowled over by him, such madness and craziness, I really felt he was totally mad and disturbed.
He was amazing. I think Derek Jacobi was absolutely perfect for his part of it, but John Simm really took it and made it his own. But then, I never thought Tennant could replace Chris Ecclestone, so who knows.
