This is the job I want:
PA/Researcher
Salary: In accordance with experience/Parliamentary Pay Scales
Details: Westminster based PA role, working alongside a constituency based caseworker/team.

The role will involve:
Overall management of the Westminster and Constituency diary
Some research/casework assistance
Fielding of incoming calls/mail
General office management, including ordering of stationary.

Ideally, candidate will have experience of working within Westminster, but not essential.

The problem? It's for a Conservative. Doh! I'd apply anyway, but .. I just .. I can't.

You should apply, just to find out more and do the interview. You don't have to take the job if they offer it to you.

But you can't leave your previous job, you've only been there 3 months and what will they say??? ;)

You're probably right. She seems like a decent sort of woman, for a Conservative. I think. Hmm.

Damn! You'd think there'd be similar positions for more liberal MPs, though... would you work for Labour if a job like that came up?

It would be quite sickening to work for a Tory. They'd probably catch you if you tried sabotage, too.

Absolutely. Unfortunately the Labour, and Lib Dem MPs are all too tight to pay anyone to do any work. They all seem to be advertising for volunteers and "interns" who get expenses only. *scowl* But I'm sure it's only a matter of time before something turns up in the right colour.

I'm considering applying anyway, even though she's a Tory. Hmm. Hmmm. *ponders*

Yeah, I saw the comment above. I think it's a good idea, to have gone through the process, so that if you want to apply for a similar position in Labour or Lib Dem (should they decide that paid workers are actually a good idea) you'd know how it goes.

And I know how you love fishing trips.

I wouldn't so much be going through it for the experience as I would be attempting to get the job and work for a Conservative. IMO there's not a lot of point putting myself through the trauma of an interview, having to take a day off, etc., if I'm not serious about at least considering the job at the end of it. Hence the dilemma over whether to apply. If it was with a Labour or a Lib Dem person, I wouldn't hesitate. Hmm. We'll see.

Those fish won't catch themselves, you know ;)

Ahh, I see. Well, in that case, I guess you could spy on the enemy for a while then!

No way. Lazy things.

I, like the fish, am just far too lazy to apply for a job if I didn't really want it. Otherwise, far too much effort for not enough payoff. I'll probably dither over it for a few days and then miss the deadline in the end *g*

It took you this long to figure that out? ;)

It's not good when you try and argue both sides within a couple of days of each other - people remember and then the mocking begins!

I rather think I was arguing the same argument twice over, not two different sides of one argument.
