I really f*cking hate the current specsavers advert. The one with the chick who brings her boyfriend home, and because her mother has got spangly new contact lenses from specsavers, and is therefore no longer wearing her glasses, the boyfriend fancies the mum. Because *obviously* people with glasses are ugly, and the only way to be attractive is if you swap your ugly-making specs for contact lenses! What a f*cking stupid way for a shop that primarily sells glasses to advertise themselves - "our product will make you ugly, so boys won't like you. But hey, it's okay, because we do contact lenses too!" What a load of crap.

I may even have to write Specsavers a Strongly Worded Letter about the whole thing. Grr.

I hate that too. Mind you, I hate Specsavers anyway: they charged me £200 for a pair of hideous glasses I wouldn't have bought if the guy helping me choose frames had been even halfway competent. And they wouldn't give me a refund because they said they didn't to that for people 'changing their minds'. The concept of 'I couldn't see what I looked like in them' didn't seem to register with them at all.

Now I go to Vision Express. Soooooooooo much better.

Uhm, sorry about ranting in your journal. Sheesh, you'd think after six years I'd have got over by now, but no. O.O

I've been to Specsavers for a few years now, and they've not been too bad for me, although if you ask their advice on frames it tends to be ".. uh .. yeah, those ones are fine. Whatever. Or, hey, the more expensive ones over there? They totally suit you!" I'm quite easily swayed in my opinions by advertising though, or bad advertising anyway. I haven't eaten a single Yorkie since they brought in that offensive sexist bullshit advertising campaign about how their big phallic man-bars are only for blokes (uhuh, whatever), and after this I think I may switch my custom from Specsavers to Vision Express too.

No problem, feel free to rant away *g* I started the rant, it's only fair ;)

The frames thing is a big problem for me, as I can't focus on anything more than four inches away from my eyes. And that's way too close to see what you look like in new glasses. Vision Express is great, because they really do help you chose something that looks okay, and they have that machine that photographs you so you can see what you look like.

I went to Vision Express a few times before going to Specsavers, I think. That photo machines sounds quite cool, although I think it'd be a bit weird having to look at photos of myself in a bunch of different pairs of glasses! I can see okay without mine though, at that kind of distance, so I'm usually okay. It's a useful service though.

I hate that shit too, not least because I like my glasses, they are pretty and they suit me.

Also, I can barely put on eyeliner so I don't think I'll be sticking my finger in my eye anytime soon.

It's the mass generalisation that I hate. The idea that *everyone* who wears glasses is less attractive than *everyone* who doesn't - man, it doesn't work like that. Grr.

Ditto on that. Nothing is going in my eyes, thanks all the same.

Oh, but I look so much prettier in contact lenses. That red, blinky, streaming-eyed look brings all the boys to the yard.

Not.

But don't you see? If you don't get contact lenses, your man will fancy your *mum* instead of you, because boys never make passes etc etc ad nauseum. Grr.

I *so* agree. I hate that advert. I blame the mass media for me not getting my eyes checked ever, and then realising last week that I can't actually see!

I like my new glasses though, and the people at Boots were really helpful and let me try on about every single pair in the shop, making appreciative noises, and reassuring me every time I went "I look like an idiot, don't I?" I never thought about going to Specsavers, mainly because their "Should have gone to specsavers..." advert really annoyed me.

Yes, those other ads were very annoying too. Specsavers in general don't have much luck with their advertising. Their own fault, mind you. You expect it, to a certain degree, that advertisers and the media are going to tell us that people who wear glasses are not as attractive as people who don't, because that's what the media does, but for a company that *sells* glasses to tell it's primary audience that they're a bunch of ugly freaks? That's just stupid. Grr.

Thank you! It's not just me. I cannot stand that advert and also the girl looks HOT in those glasses, so what the fuck are they trying to prove?
