CSI, Stargate, Atlantis
Oct. 23rd, 2004 05:03 pmOver the last few days, I have been mostly watching ...
CSI and I are still in that warm, fuzzy place o' love, so really it can do no wrong whatever happens. I can accept Catherine/Nick flirting, I can accept Greg/Sara (well, okay, accept is a very strong word..), I can accept fairly lame plots, because we are still madly in love, and while we're in the "I hurt when it hurts" stage, nothing it does can really be wrong on a permanent level. Nevertheless, I shall attempt some non-lust-addled thoughts about the programme, as I know y'all are hanging on my every word ;)
Greg in the field is tres cute, even when he does make the lamest jokes ever, but Chandra never really stood a chance, poor girl. I like Mia though, as long as they don't throw Greg at her in an attempt to make him look a bit more heterosexual. She's kinda quirky, and good at her job which helps. I did love Chandra's line about "they all want you. I'm not you." I've seen the same thing in some other show, I forget what show, but I thought it was nice that they acknowledged that yes, Greg is a funny little guy who dances around his office and does silly things sometimes, but he was also very good at his job, and everyone appreciated it. Anyway, yes, I like Mia. I hope she sticks around.
I didn't really notice Travis (who is, apparently, Sark from Alias), probably because I've never seen Alias in my life and therefore don't give a rat's behind about the actors from the show. He was just a guy, and if he comes back he comes back. Whatever. I'm sure it was nice for the Alias fans though :)
Sara's emotional trauma sort of passed me by, but I think I can probably work up some enthusiasm for it over the coming weeks, as long as it's not All About Grissom, because really, if I want to see an angst-ridden, thwarted love affair, I'll go watch Sunset Beach. I do like Sara, more than I used to now that I understand her a bit better, but the show should be bigger than any one character and all that. I like that she's being a bit friendlier, and she was very sweet to Greg about his first autopsy and when they were on the case together. As long as it doesn't turn into a horrendously painful love triangle, I'll be happy there.
I'm very worried about Catherine. She seems to be going a bit .. crazy. First there's dating Krycek (who really needs to haul ass to the gym, btw), who is a big whore, and then there's showing Lindsey the dead girl, which was probably not the right way to explain the dangers of the world to a vulnerable, angry 12-year-old, and then there's the "omg do I need plastic surgery?" and the rampant flirting. Now I liked the Catherine/Warrick moment (of course *g*), but that didn't feel overplayed or "look, look, Catherine has Issues!" which the whole cosmetic surgery thing in the next (fourth) ep did. Maybe I'm just bitter because Catherine/Nick doesn't do it for me, I don't know. Still, the main point remains, that I am worried about Catherine. I know, I'm meant to be worried about her, it's leading on to upcoming storylines, but still. Catherine is great, she shouldn't be all nuts.
Nick. Aah, Nick. Absent for far, far too much of the eps so far, and when he was there he was mostly floating around in the background of someone else's case. Even this week, with the plastic surgery, it was All About Catherine, and Nick was just there to check out the women, just in case we'd forgotten that he's heterosexual. You know. Because if they didn't remind us, we might just forget. Someone in a comment somewhere on LJ mentioned that they'd "Jesused him up", which I thought was pretty funny, but also kinda true. If Nick's going to go all right-wing Jesus freak on us, I might just decamp to .. I don't know, is there a CSI:Canada? Also, only one Nick/Greg scene so far in four episodes, and they were not at any time (that I recall) on camera together. If I went in for conspiracy theories, which I do .. well, anyway, it's not good. Stupid writers.
The plots - well, I'm fairly easily pleased with these things. People die, cases get solved, I'm fairly happy with it however it turns out. I would like more Nick, more Warrick, some Nick/Greg, more Warrick/Catherine, some Grissom/Sara if it keeps Sara away from Greg, and more Mia, Archie (<3), Hodges and Bobby. I am reasonably happy, but I could be far, far happier if I got at the very least items 1 and 2 from my list here. Uhuh.
Well .. it was .. okay. The plot kinda sucked and didn't really go anywhere, but there were some good character moments, and I giggled all the way through like the twelve-year-old fangirl I am over Daniel and his new Russian boyfriend. Until said boyfriend got frozen to death. Poor guy. Still, it's Stargate, they can always bring him back. General Jack is good, Sam was on form, except the silly "I'm not evil, despite all evidence to the contrary - I need to shut off the self-destruct!" "Okay then, if you say so." part, which made no logical sense, as did the "Sam can turn off the self-destruct from the computer console that got disconnected a few days previously" part, although that may be me not quite understanding how their systems work, so I'll let that one go. The Daniel/Jack "you shot me" thing was cute, and I already mentioned Daniel and his Russian boyfriend. Teal'c getting an apartment - well, it's a wonder he's only just getting one now. It's been seven years, fcol. Overall, yeah, passable. I didn't die of boredom. It wasn't hideous like Dive and Crumble, it didn't light up my world. Just a reasonable filler episode. Although fillers, this early in the season? Not a great sign.
Every time I write Atlantis, I think I've spelled it wrong. Anyway, yeah, it was okay. The wraiths are lame lame lame, and they scary chick was a violently unsubtle cross between Ra and Marilyn Manson that just did not work for me. Speaking of violent, it was, very. Even TMO commented, and she wasn't watching it. Violence, kids, it just ain't the answer. I'm still not fond of the J Lo chick, and I can't remember the dude's name, and I think they were laying it on a bit thick with the dude/Weir "tension", but I liked McKay and .. Robert Patrick, he was good, and .. that was sort of it really. It was okay. Didn't suck. Hopefully it'll get better.
So, that's my television for the last week. Other than that, I've applied for a few jobs, and I filled out the forms I had to do to apply for unemployment benefits. TMO is on half-term now but (thank the good lord) she's off on holiday from Tuesday to Friday, so I will be able to get by without matricide. I've been to the gym, and I was working with my aunt again yesterday, but I haven't had any time to Sim or to write fic or anything. I made a Warrick/Catherine icon, but it's a season 5 picture, so I will only be using it for comments with people I know will have seen s5 (I hope ..) so no one gets accidentally spoiled. I also got a Greg/Nick icon, but
carolinecrane made that one and I just nicked it from her site because I am too damned lazy snowed under with .. stuff and .. uh .. things to make one of my own. Also hers are verh verh pretty.
That's it really. I'm sure I had more to say when I sat down to write this post, but now it's all faded into the mists of my brain, and I'm just thinking about eating chocolate and maybe feeding the cat. Oh well. Such is old age.
ETA: Oh yes, I remember. I got a postcard from
aphedas the other day. "Oh," said TMO, upon arriving home and seeing the postcard in the kitchen. "A postcard." Yes, said I. It's for me. "Who's it for?" TMO asked, as if she hasn't heard me, on account of how she didn't hear me because she never bloody listens to me. "Who's that? Tim? Who's Tim?" Em, I corrected. It says Em. That's me. "Oh," TMO said. "Oh right." She continued to read the postcard. It's my postcard, I pointed out again. "Yes," she said, vaguely, finishing it and putting it back down.
Privacy? What privacy. Bloody good job there was nothing on there about teh gay pr0n or the RPS or anything. Although hopefully if there had been, I would've had the good sense to hide it before she got home. Hopefully.
