Oct. 13th, 2004 08:48 pmSo I finally gave in and bought CSI season 3 on DVD. MmmmmCSI<3 I am slowly but surely working my way through them. TMO was not best pleased by my decision to buy them, but I thought hey, fuck it, I can buy whatever I want. And so I did :)
I taped Stargate and Atlantis last night, because I was at the gym, but I've watched them both now.
Stargate was okay, I suppose. The bits with Jack were by far and above the better parts. The stuff with Sam was dull and irrelevant to the story and painfully remeniscent of all those thousands of "Lana gets stalked because she is so pwetty and everyone wuvs her" Smallville eps. I'm fond of Sam, but really, give her something more interesting to do than have some lameass bad guy with a terribly dodgy perm crushing on her. Boring much. Is this Stargate or Dawson's Creek?Teal'c with hair is creepy, and Jack's promotion is okay except that it's just because RDA doesn't want to do as much on the show. There was some good stuff, like Jack talking over his promotion with the team. Team moments. Oh yes :) Overall though, it was pretty forgetable.
Atlantis .. well, it didn't suck, which is what I expected, so I was pleasantly surprised overall. I still adore Rodney, and the Scottish dude seems quite funny. Dr Weir is less annoying than I thought she'd be, and Robert Patrick was very cool (he called
niannah "doll", did you know?). The sparky young Jack O'Neill substitute whose name I can't remember was a bit too much of a perky funny 'all American guy' MarySue, but I didn't actively dislike him, so I'll give him a chance.
All that nonsense in the cave with the chick who looked like a poor man's Jennifer Lopez reminded me a lot of the original Stargate film. I kept expecting the J Lo chick to start talking in ancient Egyptian and drawing stuff in the sand. That would've been way cooler, imo. I was un-gripped by the storyline and I didn't much care whether they all drowned in Atlantis, but I'm willing to give it another chance next week to see if it improves, as pilot shows almost always suck. Jack and Daniel were funny, although it was a shame we didn't see Teal'c and especially Sam (I choose to believe that Sam knew she couldn't restrain herself from jumping Rodney, and since she's still dating Pete (I <3 Pete, btw), she didn't want to risk anything happening), but good god, did they honestly think they could have Garwin Sandford in there again and we wouldn't notice? I was like, wtf is Dr Weir doing dating Narim?! Is was good to see Garwin again though. He's such a sweetie :)
So yeah, overall, not too bad. I'm not taping them or anything, but I'll probably watch them.
In other news, I am going to write the next part of DM AU tomorrow if it KILLS ME! I didn't get around to writing yesterday, with going to town to buy CSI DVDs and then the gym and then watching Stargate, and today I was at my aunt's working, but tomorrow is totally free, and I will write that fic or die in the attempt!
I am also going to make myself some CSI icons. Yay! But fic first. Probably.

Date: 2004-10-13 01:11 pm (UTC)Ha! Glad I wasn't the only one!
And I mostly agree on your Atlantis thoughts. It didn't suck being my highest praise at the moment, but I will watch it next week.
I liked the Jack promotion team bits too but it was spoiled by me thinking of the reasons behind it.

Date: 2004-10-13 02:32 pm (UTC)I had totally forgotten that.
I agree in general. (a ha ha ha) I like Fifth, even though he is essentially a daft character to have. I like him because of his dodgy perm. I was fairly tired of the Montana crap pretty quickly. Even my little sister was mocking the way, when people find themselves in alternate realities of any kind, they go around telling the other people there that it's all wrong.
As for Atlantis, I liked the new lead guy for his sticky up hair (it seems there's a theme here) and his obvious younger-version-of-Jackness. Jack is cool, ergo, 2 Jacks can't be too bad. Liked also the Atlantean Stargate. Flashy.
The Wraiths look about as interesting as cold soup, though.
Anyway...
I am going to write the next part of DM AU tomorrow if it KILLS ME!
I hope it doesn't kill you, but I think that Warren might if he doesn't get some Tucker lovin' soon, and he knows he ain't getting none from me. Since I loaned you Tucker and everything.

Date: 2004-10-13 02:57 pm (UTC)I didn't mind Fifth in the other one he was in, but in this one he just seemed so much a plot device rather than a person, I couldn't get at all involved. And the perm just made me think of Jonathan Creek, which made me snicker and was not at all conducive to tension.
The whole Montana thing, the moment it appeared I was shouting at the tv, "Sam would NEVER go and live on a FARM in MONTANA!" Also, it was dull. Although I did enjoy seeing Pete again, even if it was only fake!Pete.
The Atlantean Stargate was indeed very cool. And their DHD was cute, with its funny little mobile phone style buttons. Nice touch *G* Yes, the wraiths - they've shut down the Goa'uld threat, so now they're reintroducing the exact same concept, only calling them "Wraiths", which is such an overused word for bad guys.
I hope it doesn't kill me too, but I will go ALL THE WAY to get this damn part written. YES! Warren wouldn't dare even attempt to kill me. I'm far too scary for that. We'll see though.

Date: 2004-10-13 05:40 pm (UTC)However, it's going to be really hard to keep my mouth shut about the season, until everybody's seen it all. Arg! :-P

Date: 2004-10-14 04:10 am (UTC)SG-1's New Order... I loooooved Jack and Daniel bits. Teal'c's hair I got used to fast, surprisingly fast. The Sam wig was atrocious and made me want to cry. Oy. But squee for the team moments as well. I miss those. Like in season 7 it waned, and I didn't know how much I really missed them til I rewatched the series with a friend and was all "This was why I watched man. *squishes team*".
I liked the ep overall. This season though has been a lot of... "yeah, okay. *yawn*" mixed with a few "woo!" moments for me. Er... is that too spoilery? *is sheepish*
Atlantis rocks my socks. But I loved it from the get-go. And Sheppard makes me happy heh. Well, they all do. *hugs them close*
I too was surprised with how little Dr. Weir annoyed me, and I actually had a crush on her, but that's a waned a bit now.
Mckay is faaabulous and my fave on the show.
And as a sort of aside, I ship everyone on the show though lol. There are no otp's that jump out really. hee.
I was excited about Narim too, then it was like two seconds of a guy named Simon and I was like "Dude. What?" And that Halling guy, Jinto's father (of the Athosians) he was in a season 7 ep (Revisions). And! They reuse a couple of other actors too. Bwah!
But yeah, the next ep is goodly, I do believe. The one after that is even better, I adored it. Still do.
If ye end up sticking with it, ye do, and if not, it's goodly. I'll still think you're a decent human being. *giggle*
*snooglies*

Date: 2004-10-14 06:08 am (UTC)As soon as I saw the long-haired!Sam I started wailing, "no, no, not Alternate!Universe!Girly!Sam! She can't come back, she can't! She needs to die! Wait, she did die! There were hand grenades, it was beautiful! NooOOOooooOOOOOOoooo!" But fortunately it didn't last too long. With the team moments, I think they finally accepted that what people want in the show is not Sam/Jack, or any relationship pairing. We want team! And perhaps we'll finally get some back :) It's not too spoilerish, don't worry *G* That's pretty much what I'd expect from a season of SG *g*
I've read so many good things about Atlantis on my flist, I'm definitely going to keep watching to see how things go. It wasn't bad, and it was only the first half of the pilot, so I didn't really expect miracles and fireworks. We'll see.
:)
