Hullo Dreamwidth. I'm not going to start crossposting (yet), because a). I don't really see any need, and b). I'm not clever enough to set that sort of thing set up, but .. hello :)
It seems to be the same, but with some things called by different names. And I think it's run a bit different too, i.e. not by a commercial company, which I know some people were anxious about with LJ. It's all quite new at the moment, so I think I'll give it the benefit of the doubt for now and see how it goes.
There are some things I like, which are an improvement over LJ. For example, the separation between reading list and giving someone access, which means you can subscribe to someone's posts without having to give them access to anything behind a lock. I also loved how utterly easy it was to port 7 years of Livejournal across to this site, without having to mess around with software. The site does it for you just by you asking it to and telling it your livejournal account and putting in your password (which isn't, afaik, saved for longer than needed). That was really neat - it also copies across not just all of your entries but all of the comments, tags and userpics.
Wow, that's pretty cool. I have my LJ backed up, but it would be good to have the whole thing, pictures and tags and all, copied somewhere safe. I think I'll look in to that.
Here's the the importer tool. It's actually really easy to use and kind of addictive, watching as it slowly uploads all of your content ::g:: It even imports all of your bio, interests etc.
