An Open Letter to fandom by [livejournal.com profile] ivyblossom

Quote:I suspect they didn't mean to rollover academic communities talking about Nabokov. I suspect they didn't mean to blast incest-survivor groups. But I'm pretty sure they had every intention of packing in communities like [livejournal.com profile] pornish_pixies if it would help their image.

So when they talk about the "kind of community" that they want to build, just remember: if you're in fandom writing stuff that might qualify for the communities that got axed, you're probably not their kind of community. Think about that before you give Livejournal any more of your money.

And an amusing take from [livejournal.com profile] annajaneclare.

That was an interesting read, thank you for linking to it!

I really think she's right, I don't doubt that Six Apart knew that innocent communities and journals would get caught in the crossfire and I can see situations arising in the future where something similar happens again. It's now been bought to the attention of the advertisers that their products are being associated with 'questionable content', I wonder how long it will be before the pressure starts again to 'protect the children'.
