We're still looking for a web designer here at work. None of the so-called professionals y'all recommended last time ever got back to me, except [livejournal.com profile] davechicken, who is really far, far too busy with Uni work and work-work to be taking on extra projects.

But if anyone knows of any good companies or actual professional designers who answer their emails when offered a potential job, I'd appreciate hearing from you.

If you can't find anyone by the end of next week, I'll be trying to keep my sanity, and exam-free. :) But I would probably have to work from home.

If you get stuck let me know. Cos I know some other people who might as well. Do they ahve to be in the UK? I have an American webdesigning friend.

R, who I work with, is looking into the whole issue of finding a webdesigner now, so it's a bit out of my hands, but we've got this list of what we want, and apparently we paid £3,000 for our current website, which is ridiculous because it's shite. We can't even upload pictures or change the design ourselves or anything. But then, afaik we don't have Dreamweaver, or even any crappy web design software, so I suppose it just all has to be outsourced to someone else.

I don't know about an American doing it. It's all proper and official business, with VAT payments and all those business-y things that I know nothing about, so outsourcing something to America, especially since we are a small company, might not be possible and/or wise. If your friend has a proper work website for him/herself or something though, send it my way and I'll pass it on to R.

Three GRAND? Jeez. You know what... I could do it a hell of a fucking lot cheaper. I have dreamweaver and I have a copy of it you could use too, if you PC likes it.

I'm serious. I have an exam today and one on Thursday but otherwise I am mostly free, half broke and needing to do something to get my mind off the hell.

I could come in and talk about it and get feedback and plot it and then come back and show someone(s) how to maintain it if you want. Of course tell me to fuck off if you like, but I could do with the money and I know I wouldn't charge you three grand.

Since we get checked out by VAT inspectors and .. whoever's job it is to check software licences, if we did need to use Dreamweaver (and we don't currently have a copy - I just checked with R) we'd have to buy one, all official and above-board like. And apparently we're not going to buy a copy (so R says. I don't see quite how we're meant to update the site without one, but there you go).

We're a heck of a long way away from you. It'd be quite a distance to come down and talk it all through when it might not even go ahead, but give me some links to other sites you've done and I'll pass them on to R for her to have a look, since she knows more about what we need than me, and I'll let you know what she says.

Well there's freeware you can use as well, or very cheap copies of stuff just to keep on top of something someone made if you ever need to.

I did

www.georgianwindow.net
www.normanlongstaff.co.uk - which is crap because it needs keeping on top of almost constantly
www.penumbris.com which is my *cough* personal site and so... yeah. The www.penumbris.com/archive/index.php has a slightly more interesting layout but beware some of the stories? ;)

*nods*

Sorry to put myself ahead but eh, you need to in this world don't you?

Not a problem :) I'll pass on a couple of links to R. Not the personal one though, heh heh. Need to keep her away from any potential pr0n ;)

TwistyBot.com / ErinShore.net (both are by the same people, I believe ErinShore.net takes care of business-orientated websites though, and TwistyBot deals more with personal websites I think, so the latter is probably the place to go!).

Orrr, there is also my uncle who is an excellent designer, and is currently in the process of entering the freelance design world, though his business website is still under development. I could still give you his contact information however. :))

*eg* I didn't know if she was pr0n friendly or no. But it's easy enough to throw up a mock-page with no pr0n. ;)

No one I work with is pr0n friendly. Well, they might be, but I'd rather not know if they are ;)

There must be waaaays of finding out. Like starting to sing 'the hedgehog can never mumbumbled at all...' and see if anyone joins in.

And things like that.

Or, diet coke break. And develop.

Or... yeah, okay, so I shut up now ;)

I've passed on ErinShore.net to my colleague R, who's working on the website stuff, and if you could give me your uncle's contact details too, that'd be great :) Thanks :)
