My god, the Tories really are a bunch of tw*ts, aren't they. Don't they want to win this election? I mean, I'm all for them losing and losing badly, but I didn't think they were.
Thing is, life is easy as the opposition - you can throw all the mud you like at the government's shocking and appalling handling of [insert situation here], make all kinds of wild statements about how there'd be money raining from the skies and everyone would be happy and joyful if *you* were in power, and you never have to actual try and make it happen.
So why should any sensible political party (an oxymoron, I know) ever really try and get elected?
So far I have yet to see any Tory leader (Hague, IDS and now Howard) make it look even slightly easy. They bang on about Brown vs. Blair but that's a piffling little catfight compared to the glorious smackdowns that occur within their power-hungry and opportunistic ranks. The whole thing is hilarious.
True, but that might just say something about the quality of people they have as leader and the fact that to be a true Tory you probably have to be just a little psychotic in the first place. The Lib Dems seem to handle being in opposition with much more style.
This is very true. Perhaps the Tories are indeed master strategists, aiming for a life in opposition - get paid oodles of cash, have a hand in legislation, but don't have to take any actual responsibility, and did I mention the oodles of cash? Sneaky sods.
