Absolutely, not that there's all that much to choose from.

I had to go check the news websites when I saw this post, thinking you knew something we didn't...

There was just a report published today by the ONS that said that thousands of potential voters had missed the deadline to be able to vote on May 5th. I felt inspired to have a political moment, even if it is too late. It was one of the first things I did after moving up to Farnham - find out how to register to vote, especially with the General Election coming.

thinking you knew something we didn't...

Aah, maybe I know something that hasn't hit the news yet ... Or maybe I don't ;)

From time to time, when I'm at events, if I look out of the window and squint really, really hard, I can almost make them out! ;)

Like hell I wouldn't be, though I admit to the possibility of strategic voting to make sure my own constituency gets a decent person. And since I'm scottish that likely won't affect who'll get into Downing street...

But heck, the fun part is working at the election anyway. They pay very well :D

I am indeed! Got one of those standard 'please vote for me' letters from my MP today.

Is the Scottish Executive being voted on soon too, or is it just Westminster and the locals? I really ought to know that already. Bad me. I strategic voted when I was in Portsmouth, and I sort of will be again - Lib Dem to keep the Tory scum out - but being disillusioned with Labour as I am, I'm sort of voting for the Lib Dems on their own strength now. Strategic voting, however, is a time-honoured tradition, and well worth doing. Every vote counts in determining who gets into / stays in Downing Street - your vote is (I imagine) one less vote for Mr Blair, which is one step towards him not getting in. It's a grand circle of democracy. Oh, I am far too enthusiastic about this. Will stop now. Whee! :)

I'd love to work at the election, but unfortunately I have to work before, during, and after it here at my silly job, since we're going to have to kick ass and take names in re-writing our entire parliamentary database to account for all the change-over. Woe! That doesn't pay well at all :(

Hurrah! I have been stuffing those into envelopes for the Lib Dems this week. They get sent out on Friday. They're for the Lib Dem candidate though, not our MP, who is Virginia Bottomley (*spit*), who, fortunately, is standing down at this election. Rah rah rah! Simon Cordon for MP for Surrey South West! *waves flag*

I didn't realise she was still around!

Rah! Rah!

Our MP is Labour but he's pretty good really!

Unfortunately yes, and hubby Peter too. She comes along to our events sometimes and congratulates us on the food. I think the reason she's stayed in politics as long as she has is that she likes the nosh at the House of Commons. She's off now though. Yay! Apparently she's very good on local issues, but hopefully now that she's gone my boy Simon will get in! She's only got an 861 vote lead at the moment. We're the number 2 or 3 target for the Lib Dems. Woo! :)

Let's hope he hangs on to his seat then :)

No, we did the scottish executive... now I think it was last year. They're beginning to muddle in my mind. But I strategic vote for Perth because there are two parties that 'rule' here as it were. The tories and the SNP. So I vote accordingly ;)

Should be. Haven't seen a form but we have funny election dates in this odd backwater. If I show up on polling day and they say I wasn't registered I'll cry Florida and let slip the dogs of war.

I imagine if you were registered for '01, you should still be registered, although I am quite sure that if you aren't, the dogs of war will do their job.

I think I might be registered twice. Once here, and once at uni. I definitely had a card for here last time, though I couldn't use it as it was mid-exams and I was at Uni. Not sure though. How do you check? Is it to late if I'm not?

As I understand it, if you register in one place and tell them where you were registered before, they'll take you off the register at your former address, so wherever you were most recently registered is where you'll be registered and wherever you were formerly registered should have been cancelled. If you were ever away from your permanent address at an election, you could apply for a postal vote (which is what I did when I was off at Uni), or a proxy vote. If you aren't registered, it is too late now. The deadline was March 11. You can check whether you're registered by getting in touch with the returning officer of your local authority (ie. the council). Lots of details about it all here (http://www.aboutmyvote.co.uk/).
