First things first, since I have my priorities totally straight -

There's no doubt the show's lost some of the sparkle that made me fall madly in love a few months ago, but I am still loving it. We're just through that mad, passionate stage and in to being comfortable just being in the room together. Anyway, it's still good, and I'm not as bothered by the splitting of the teams as I expected to be, although there are things that annoy me about it, and I'm sure after a few weeks of Sara/Grissom/Greg/Sofia, Cath/Warrick/Nick I'll be thoroughly bored of the limited number of combinations such a split can bring. That was always one of the good things about CSI, matching everyone up differently for different cases. Now, it's fixed, and fixed things are never as much fun as dynamic ones.

Also, Sofia? Needs to leave. Go, go far away, now, and please don't come back.

So, anyway, this ep. I was somewhat confused by the fact that the first dead kid, and then his brother - that never really got explained at all. It was just "oh, Sofia ran down the road and solved the case single-handed, because she's SO FANTASTIC OMG WHY DON'T YOU ALL LOVE HER!!!!!!" And that was it. Apparently the kid who shot them both turned up later, on Nick and Warrick's case, which was a nice touch, but I didn't spot it, I just read it on the website. And who was Rodney King? Is that like Keyser Soze? Hah, I ordered The Usual Suspects on DVD today. I love that film :) Anyway, not important. It confused me somewhat is all. And then it was just about the kid, which was really quite tragic, and a nice story about Sara and a bit about Greg, although with Greg I'm confused about exactly what message they're trying to put across. Does he even like being in the field? It seems not to me, which adds credence to my "back to the lab for season 6" theory, but makes season 5 seem a bit pointless if they're just going to hit the rewind button at the end of it. That's true for the Catherine/Nick/Warrick on swing shift situation too. There doesn't seem to me to be any way they can reverse that change without totally screwing everyone over - having Catherine demoted, and moving Nick and Warrick back on to nights for as good a reason as the reason they gave for moving them on to days. Which was no reason.

And did I mention that Sofia needs to leave? Because she does.

Sara, or rather Jorja I suppose, is starting to show her age a bit, which is fine because she is a real woman and not a barbie doll, but it is interesting to see. The final scene seemed to be about separation of the team - Catherine's isolated from everyone now, because she's not working with Gil or Sara anymore, and she can't joke around with Nick and Warrick because she's their boss. Grissom is caught in the Mary Sue charms of Sofia, and Sara herself is feeling isolated from him, and not connected to Nick and Warrick anymore because they don't work together anymore. It was really quite lonely. Except for Nick, Greg and Warrick, who still have each other. But not in a threesome way. Probably. It's also quite nice to have a canon name for Sara's mother, and I'd like to get some more information on this foster care backstory. I still think that the reason Warrick called Greg to make sure he's okay is that when he and Nick were in the car on their way to the prison, Nick mentioned that Greg had been a bit freaked out when he got home over the last night's crime scene, finding a dead child and all, so when Nick was busy photographing naked men, Warrick called Greg and left a message on his cellphone. Then, when they got back in to the office later, Greg rang him back. It makes perfect sense. How else could Warrick have known that Greg had freaked out the night before, and called him, after he'd seen Nick but before he got back to the office? See? Perfect sense.

The Mia/Warrick is clearly shoved in with a crowbar to contrast with how Catherine and Warrick can't be smoochyfriends anymore because she's his supervisor. Hodges is still funny, even when he's being totally mean to Greg. Clearly he's just bitter because he doesn't get to see Greg wandering around in a labcoat so much anymore (I sympathise). Jim is just wonderful, and he and Sara need to be best friends and sit around drinking mineral water and talking about how society just isn't what it used to be and people don't *care* anymore and then they can adopt some abused children and buy a house together. What?

I missed Grissom too. I guess William Petersen is doing an RDA and will be around less, which pretty much sucks because Grissom is the best evah. Oh, lord, there was that Jim line about "I love this guy", which was probably meant to be for the benefit of Sofia, but as a slasher I appreciated it on its own merits. Heh heh.

There wasn't enough Nick, and Greg's hair is weird. I had a friend at college whose mother was Norweigan, and she had absolutely blonde hair. Now I appreciate that not all people from a country have the same colour hair, no matter what stereotypes teach us, but Greg is looking decidedly un-blond at the moment, although that may be to contrast his behaviour. "Oh, Sofia? How do I take a fingerprint? *big dopey look*" At least there was no "oh Sofia, u r so hawt omgwtf!!1!!11!" which I admit I was half expecting during that scene. And at least Louise Lombard is not main cast yet. Hah :P May she remain not main cast for ever. And may she learn to tie her damn hair back. From what little I know of the crime scene forensics types we have over here, they wear white bath hats when they go in to a crime scene so they don't contaminate any evidence. I think we should have a collection and buy one for Sofia. Once her golden tresses of Mary Sue-dom were hidden, her power over everyone in the lab except Sara might break and she might melt or something. Here's hoping.

And that gun? Tiny tiny gun! Tiny! But it did mean extreme close up of Nick's hands, which cannot ever be a bad thing. Mm :) Although by that point, I was beginning to wonder if Nick was still in the ep at all, or if he'd had his one scene and that was it. But overall, not bad. Not great, but not bad. Roll on Xmas, roll on season 1 and 2 DVDs. Mmm :)

And that's my last s5 CSI episode until they show them over here next year some time, since I'll be losing my broadband tomorrow morning :'(

This is weird. I know the Ukrainians and Russians do things a little differently than us, and this may yet prove to have been an accident or something, but still. Weird.

And now, my week, starting with . Welcome to the [company I work for]. I know, I've named them before, but I should probably be a but more careful about things like that really. Anyway, if you don't know who I work for, it's not really important. It's not like a big company or anything. So, Monday I went up to London for this induction day, welcoming us to the company and stuff. I'd already actually worked there for two weeks, so a lot of it was a bit pointless and/or late, but there you go. There were quite a few people there, most of them from the London office, and most of them doing calculations training, which is what we *thought* we were going to be doing, when actually we're just doing admin. Yay(!) The day itself was absolutely, mind-numbingly dull. We had to listen to a boring presentation about the company which we'd all already heard at our assessment days, when we were interviewed for the job in the first place. Then there was a generic safety video about not getting smooshed by heavy equipment and stuff, which was clearly vital for us all, working in offices as we do. I hate safety videos as it is, after the one I saw when I worked at Tesco, which was all, "Be careful of the waste compactor and incinerator. [picture of young chap larking about by the mouth of the incinerator]. You may slip or trip and be crushed to death, or possibly burned to death. [picture of young chap falling dramatically into compactor and being crushed to a slow, painful death, with much screaming]". [Emony - 0_0]

So that was a bit crap. I felt ill all morning, and they took us across the road to this posh little London theatre-restaurant place, where the food was posh, posh, or a bit more posh for those who like things even posher than posh. Needless to say, I ate nothing all day. Colleagues are now convinced that I have an eating disorder of some kind. So that didn't help. Then back for an afternoon of HR nonsense. I can't even remember what was said now, but I have a binder full of rubbish about the timelog system we use to log our times (see how imaginative that name is? Stunning, isn't it), and making expense claims and stuff. All in all, the day was a total waste of time, and I wish I hadn't bothered going at all.

When I got back on Tuesday, I managed to arrange for the second job interview I was asked to to be on Friday at 4pm. Worked out perfectly, as it happened. I worked late on Thursday, so I could take Friday afternoon off. This interview was for the job in Westminster, although it's not actually in Westminster itself. It's in Sunningdale, which is a little place near Ascot, in Berkshire. I think it went rather well, although of course it's hard to tell with these things. I got hopelessly lost trying to find the place, and actually had to ring them on my mobile and wander up and down the street going, "I can't see any of the places you're describing!" But then the guy opened the window and waved and I finally realised that I'd been standing right outside the place the whole time. Doh!

I did, however, spot a shop called "Hyperion furniture" and the man and woman who interviewed me were called Peter and Mary-Jane, so I was all over those fandom-esque portents of good :) They were very well organised, both had copies of my CV and my covering email (all two lines of it), which bodes very well. The office is small, but in a cosy sort of way, and they seem quite a close, supportive team. The job is a step up in terms of responsibility, and a step down in terms of pay, but it sounds really good. Scary, but really good. I think I gave very vague, wishy-washy answers to all their questions, but that sort of seems to work sometimes, so hopefully I did okay. Peter asked the "where do you see yourself in five years" question (him: hah, bet you've never had that one before.), which is usually really hard, but I just sort of came out with this: "Huh, well, you know .. it's funny. I had this induction day on Monday, for my current job, and for that they made us draw a shield, and one quarter of the shield was about that - where do you see yourself in 2009. On mine I said I'd have a better job. And I meant this one." Hahah. And it's true as well. I don't know if they thought I was just kissing ass or avoiding the question or whatever, but they seemed fairly impressed.

So, it went well. It's really just down to who else applied, and if I don't get it, at least I know I tried my best and gave it a go, and I won't be always wondering. I will keep you updated if and when I hear from them.

We had a "team meeting" at work this week in which our new boss, who reminds me of a sort of grown up Oz, only not as cool, said that internet useage is being monitored and we can't just leave our hotmail ("or whatever other email programs you use") on all day long. Which sucks rather, and is part of the reason why I want to find a better job. But otherwise, work is .. well, it passes the time. I'm still living in the B&B and it still sucks. I'm losing my broadband tomorrow, as I mentioned, and that sucks most heinously. I did get to watch CSI yesterday though, and the new ep this morning, and there's another season 4 ep that is new to me this evening on channel 5, so it balances out overall.

And now, away! I must attempt to write some more of a certain fic I started last week, although I don't like my chances since TMO is sitting at the other end of the table marking work or something. Whatever. I'll see what I can do.

ETA: Wtf?? Anna, I changed my mind. I don't think you should move to Wiltshire at all!
