Interview, job, Xmas, CSI and next week
Dec. 4th, 2004 11:27 pmI have been so very busy this weekend, I've not had time for a proper update, so I'll start one now and finish it after CSI. Not that that makes any difference to you, my reader, who will see it all after CSI when it's complete, but I will know. My interview yesterday .. well, I won't dwell on it, but it was really a bit of a waste of time. No, that's not true. It was a lot of a waste of time. They clearly wanted someone with actual editorial experience. I don't know why they even bothered to interview me, to be honest. I wasn't too impressed with the company either. I had a hell of a time finding the bloody place. I ended up wanding around this industrial estate yelling "fuck!" at random intervals. It was only because our marvellous train system got me to Hertford a whole hour early that I wasn't horribly, horribly late. In fact, I was exactly on time. They, however, were not, and I had to wait ten minutes. Ten! Not on! Also the guy had lost my CV, was utterly unprepared for the interview, never emailed me the job specification I asked for last week, and the company was about ten people in a small office who published one set of magazines and had a sideline in little motorbikes and GPS systems. I was Not Impressed. "We're a fairly new company," he said, to explain the company's weenieness. "We've just been running six years." Six years? I thought, nodding along. Higham Group have been running about six years and we have six offices and 300 staff, you big mook. So yeah, it was a waste of my time. Even if they asked me to a second interview, I would say no.
But! I got an email on Thursday afternoon from another company, as I think I mentioned the other day, asking me to go in for an interview for a job at a company in Westminster that organises meetings and conferences and stuff for politicians and suchlike about policy issues and things like that. It's a supercool job, and so very me, and I'm going to phone up and arrange an interview for that. Woo! :) I'm trying not to get too excited about that one, because I may very well not get it, but it's such a me job, I really want it, and that's so unusual it's got to mean something! So I am very excited about that.
I did almost all my Christmas shopping today. I really am a Christmas shopping diva. I usually do everything on Christmas eve, but this year we were shopping for shoes (I got shoes too - fab day!) and I thought, "well, while we're here.." and hit the Body Shop. My family will smell very good next year, and for 20% off. Nice. TMO also bought me the second half of the season 1 Invisible Man boxset, oh fabulous day!, which I spotted on sale in MVC. I've been meaning to get a copy for *years*, and then there it was, sitting on the shelf, waiting for me. Oh yes :) Unfortunately TMO is being very mean and is refusing to let me have my DVDs until Christmas. So cruel!! She made me give my beautiful season 2, part 2 CSI DVDs to my aunt R today, so she could wrap them up and give them to me at Christmas. Oh, they are a thing of wonder. They glow in the dark! Glow! In the dark!! Fantastic!
Okay, I just went off and watched CSI. The season 4 ep where they're running a race. A race! Omg!! How cool was that! Haha! Why is there no race-training fic! There should be. Also I want a season 5 fic about Nick and Greg communicating with each other by posting notes into each other's lockers because they're on different shifts now and never see each other any more. I know, it's so high school, but I never went to high school and I never had a locker, so I think it'd be cute *g*.
I'm going up to Newbury tomorrow, then from Newbury to London on Monday for a stupid training day. It's going to be pointless and a total waste of time and I wish I'd said no to it, but it's too late now. I need to phone to set up my interview too. So much to do! :D

Date: 2004-12-05 02:11 am (UTC)Usually I do all of mine on Christmas Eve, so no one is more surprised than I that it's almost all done. I do still have to get the most difficult people's presents though - boy cousin, father, and grandfather. Sensing a theme there? *G* TMO is ill, so I've decided that instead of going back to Newbury today on the train, I'm going to go up to London for said training day tomorrow morning, and take my stuff with me, so I'll have an extra night at home. So yay training day! :)
