I have a question. A HP question. In COS, Lockhart mentions how one of his books describes his meeting with the Wagga-Wagga werewolf, right? He says that he cured the guy, and saved the villagers. So, if it's possible to "cure" werewolf-ness, why doesn't someone cure Lupin? And all the other werewolves too.

Maybe he fabricated the whole incident, or just the 'curing' part of it, in order to try and make himself look the hero?

It's possible, but surely someone would've pointed out if the charm he mentions didn't actually work. It does say the charm is "immensely complex" (yes, I did go and get COS so I could check. I am that sad), but even so. To stop people getting eaten and stuff, surely it'd be worth it. I've just always wondered.

maybe it's a case of an urban myth Lockhart took advantage of? And with him being so wonderful no one questioned it. And since everyone is so awed by him they forget to ask him if he could help the others.

Though going by the way werewolves are seen by the wizarding world, well they don't like them. Perhaps instead of curing them they'd rather forget they exist or kill them or whatever, and here's more of a case where Lockhart was 'compassionate'.

Considering the comparison made between werewolves in the Potterverse and being gay... just because some have been 'cured' doesn't mean all the others will flock to be cured or will be told to go get cured...

Well, maybe. Either that or it's just one big huge plot hole.

Maybe. I've just checked COS and it doesn't actually say, as far as I can see, that Lockhart cured (or claimed to cure) the guy, just that he turned him back into a man. Maybe he turned him into a man, they all found out who was the werewolf, and then stoned him to death so he wouldn't threaten them anymore. Which sucks really. But it does answer my question.

It's probably a lie. Which is very sad, because... poor Remus!

Yeah, poor guy. But then, you never know. JKR can be quite sly and sneaky at times with these things, so maybe at the end of book 7, Remus can be cured and will live happily ever after. What? A girl can dream. ;)

Haven't checked but I *think* it's something along the lines of there's a cure now (if you're caught early enough or something) - I think it might have been mentioned in PoA. Although, it wouldn't surprise me if Lockhart wasn't just making it up :)

I suppose that would make sense. I wish I could go to a book signing and ask JKR or something. Ah well, I'm sure she'll clarify at some point.
