If it were possible to present God with a receipt in order to claim back expenses on wasted time, I would right now be filing a request to be redressed for the hour I just spent watching "North and South". The wee northern folk with their funny northern ways versus the prim, proper southern folk who just don't get the real, modern world. Oh please :P Okay, so it was set in whatever century it was set in (you see now why I only got a B in history), but these things are meant to be relevant across time and space (see: Pride and Prejudice). No, I did not enjoy one moment of it.

Of course, it wasn't helped by the fact that I did indeed see Pride and Prejudice - I spent the preceeding two and a half hours watching the first part of P&P and swooning dramatically over Mr Darcy and Elizabeth and their exquisitly played out love affair. Everything pales in comparison, really. Mmm :)

In other news, house hunting is still totally kicking my arse. I am beginning to consider reconsidering this whole job because I'm just not sure I can face sorting out somewhere to live. Why is nothing ever easy?

You're scaring me... I saw North and South ages ago, but I remember a crush on Billy, he was very cute, and his love story with uh, don't remember the name was very sweet. There's a second pard called "Love and war" that was okay, but the third part sucked big time because they filmed it years later.

Pride and Perjudice is so cute. I got the DVDs a few weeks ago and Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle are just perfect. :)

Haha, sorry, didn't mean to be scary :) I think this may be a different North and South, as there doesn't appear to be anyone called Billy in it, and this version of it is new. I wish there was someone called Billy in it who was sweet and fanciable, but in this version there is no-one remotely likeable.

I have it on video, and just decided to rewatch it tonight. It's so wonderful :)

Oooh yes, the BBC P&P! Damned near perfect. I still think Julia Sawalha rocked the world as Lydia - she was such a naughty little slut. The last look we ever see on Wickham's knackered face as she calls him back to bed is priceless!

And Colin Firth. MmmmmmmmMMM!! Mind you, unlike all youse young folk, I was lusting after Firthy when he was in the film of Another Country, about 78 years ago I think. Man, that film was a total shagfest!

North and South is the kind of dreck the Beeb falls back on when it's run out of Dickens and Austen and half-way interesting Trollope to do. It's shite! You should have stuck with Foyle's War....

Yes, she was wonderful. Rewatching it for the umpteenth time, I'm noticing even more of the little things - facial expressions, tone of voice, etc - that just make it all so wonderful. As for Wickham, I can't help but think he rather got what he deserved. Hehe.

You are so ahead of the times *g* Mmm he is rather wonderful in P&P. I am suddenly looking forward to seeing the new Bridget Jones film all the more.

Yes, exactly. I wouldn't have bothered with it, but I read something of Gaskell's a while ago and quite enjoyed it, and N&S got a fairly good review in the Radio Times. It turns out, however, that the RT writer has very low standards. At least it was only an hour, I suppose.
