emony: (First Day (H))

*wuss*

My driving instructor told me, on Thursday, that I ought to book my practical driving test. (There's currently a four-week wait for test dates, btw, although actually, if I were ready, I could get one tomorrow - omg!)

I knew this already, of course, as he first told me I ought to book my test about two weeks ago, but I couldn't until I'd passed my theory test. Having passed my theory test on Tuesday, I could actually have booked my practical test any time on Tuesday afternoon, Wednesday or Thursday, but instead I waited until Thursday PM when I had my next driving lesson. The excuse for this is that I wanted to check with my instructor when he would be able to do it.

Now I have been through dates with my instructor, and I know when I want my test to be. However, I have still not booked it, despite it having now been four days since my discussion with my instructor. Why ever not? I hear you cry. Because I am SCARED!!!

AHRG!

I just got the furthest I've got in the bookings processes - about to choose my date and time - when I freaked out and closed the window.

What if I fail?? I've never failed a test in my life! I don't know how to cope with that sort of thing?! AHRG!

In my head, I know it doesn't matter. My mother failed on her first test, my father took five attempts to pass. But the rest of me doesn't seem to be in tune with the brain, as it's busily freaking out!!

I will do it. I will. And I know now at least that I can get my date of choice. But .. man, it's really hard going. I wish I wasn't such a big wuss.

In other news, I have been reading some really awesome fic lately. I'll try to do a recs post tonight. AFTER I book my driving test!

I failed my test first time as well, if that helps, as did my brother. I think it's almost considered a rite of passage. I do, however, fervently hope that it's one you can skip. :)

Thanks. They always say that people who fail the first time make better drivers in the long run, as it makes you really focus on your weaker areas I suppose. Nothing I can do about it really, except practice and concentrate and work at it and keep my fingers crossed :)

Go on, make the booking. You'll be fine. You've done perfectly well so far, haven't you? *g* So just do it!

[identity profile] emony.livejournal.com 2008-02-11 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I will do it tonight, really. I'm just going to angst about it and make lots of squeaking noises and things beforehand ;)

[identity profile] slb44.livejournal.com 2008-02-11 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
*listens*

I think I can hear you all away across the pond. *g*

Go for it! You're good to go.

[identity profile] emony.livejournal.com 2008-02-11 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL :) I know it'll be okay. Loads of people fail their first time, so even if I do it doesn't matter. It just means I'll have to do it again. I just have to keep repeating that until I believe it's true.

[identity profile] slb44.livejournal.com 2008-02-11 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
It's true, but I'd be willing to bet money that you won't. *g*

Dad always says that they try really hard to fail folks the first time so they can get more money from you. Which is probably true.

[identity profile] emony.livejournal.com 2008-02-11 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, yes that probably is true. :)

[identity profile] slb44.livejournal.com 2008-02-11 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
So go forth and make them earn their money on the first go. ;-)

Wow, you can pick your own day and time? Cool. When I took mine *cough* some years ago, you were choiceless and we all dreaded getting rush hour times or on a Monday morning!

There's no point telling you not to be nervous and it's no big deal because you will be and it is. One useful thing I was told is that the examiners don't mind you getting things wrong so long as you show the ability to put things right and understand what you did wrong.

Good luck!

[identity profile] emony.livejournal.com 2008-02-11 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, it's all online. It'd probably be more difficult if I wanted it sooner, but the wait is only 4 weeks at the moment, so since I want mine in 6 weeks I can pretty much choose whenever I want. It's kind of cool :)

That is useful. Thanks. I'll certainly try to keep it in mind!

Because I am SCARED!!!

Perfectly natural. *hugs*

Do things in your own time.

[identity profile] emony.livejournal.com 2008-02-11 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks :) I think I will be ready in 6 weeks time. 6 weeks is ages, really. I just don't feel ready right now!

[identity profile] odycee.livejournal.com 2008-02-11 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha! You're being far braver than I was last year. My instructor mentioned to me that I was probably ready to do my test and I managed to procrastinate for about another nine lessons! But then I made the decision and couldn't chicken out because someone booked it for me at the driving school. At least it was done I suppose - I think if I'd have had to press the button myself I'd have never booked it!

[identity profile] emony.livejournal.com 2008-02-12 07:28 am (UTC)(link)
Hah, it's not bravery, I just don't have your mad skillz when it comes to procrastinating ;) Well it's done now. I think I'll just distract myself with car magazines and websites and Top Gear until it's all over.
