HP, PS and SGA

First things first, my computer has had this problem where it randomly restarts itself for quite some time now. My aunt has suggested, and I think she's right, that I need a new graphics card. Does anyone know anything about graphics cards? I have no clue whatsoever. Any help would be much appreciated.

In other news - Patrick Stewart was AWESOME in Twelfth Night. I'd forgotten, despite being a comedy, it's actually very sad. Everyone ends up miserable really, and the only one who gets what they want is Viola. Everyone else ends up compromising, or losing out. It was very good though. If you get a chance, you should totally go and see it.

We also saw Very good. I don't have much more to say really. I liked Luna a lot, and Ginny annoyed me. Sirius was lovely, and I'm glad he had a bit more to do this time, but I didn't really feel the same overwhelming grief at his death as I did when I read the book, especially as it was fairly rapidly followed by the Luna/Harry scene that hinted, v strongly, that he might be back. Or perhaps I was just reading too much in to it all. Anyway, overall it was very good. The Grawp stuff was kept to a minimum, thank God, although .. was it just me or was there a bit of Hermione/Grawp in there. Dude, wtf? Visually it was very good, I though - I especially loved all the motion, and the first scenes with Dudley and Harry were delightful. Mm :) Umbridge was good too, although not quite how I pictured her. Certainly needs at least one rewatch though, I think. Oh, I also liked the clear ambiguity of Snape, which I didn't notice at all the first times I read the book - but the film made it very clear, I thought, that Snape and the Occlumency lessons were responsible for HWMNBN knowing that Sirius was Harry's weakness. Interesting.

I also (finally) pre-ordered my book, so I can go down and pick it up at midnight next week. Eee! :) I'm going to re-read HBP in preparation.

Mm. I really fancy some HP fic now, but I'm not even on any communities or anything. Any recs?

I've also read some really good SGA fic recently, so I'm going to do a rec post soon, as long as I can remember the ones I wanted to rec. I'm so useless at that, but I'll try, because I want to share the love :)

I don't think you're reading too much into it. Or at least, if you are, I am too! They can't possibly know, but it has given me hope for Book 7. Well, it has added to the hope I've been building on rickety foundations. Heh.

I'm rereading HBP as well. I think this is officially the week of doing that, lol.

I think they must have some ideas, because JKR certainly gives them guidance on what can be cut, what can be rewritten, and what has to be included. They could just as easily have done the scene with Nearly-Headless Nick to show Harry's grieving, but instead they went with the Luna scene. I choose to believe (for the next five days) that it means something. ;)

Oooh, fair point.

But... why then did Bellatrix hit him with an Avada Kedavra? In the book, the spell is unspecified. Why the Killing Curse? Is he going to fall behind that veil and be preserved? Is that what the space is, the magical equivalent of a cryo-chamber? lol. So many questions. Five days! This time five days, if my reading-all-night plan works out, I'll know! TOO EXCITING. I wish I could sleep till Friday.

I don't think the killing curse had any specific relevance, although I suppose with JKR one can never be sure. I think it's just the Death Eaters' favourite curse. Film!Lucius almost used it on Harry in COS, for example. They just like making folks dead. But you never know! Until Saturday, that is, when we will know! :D

When my computer kept restarting randomly it was because it was overheating as the fan wasn't working properly. Apparently the restart was a fail safe to stop it overheating critically. There is a programme you can download that will tell you the temperatures of your machine and whether or not they're at dangerous levels. Sorry I don't know what it was called but I expect a search would find it easily.

My graphics card also needed replacing, that had a fan on it that wasn't working properly.

I don't think mine can be the fan, because it doesn't feel hot and it restarts randomly - sometimes very soon after starting up, sometimes in very quick succession, sometimes ages apart. It's also usually (though not always) linked to higher CPU use, e.g. updating iTunes, running The Sims, etc. I'm pretty sure its either a). the graphics card, or b). the whole wretched machine! Whatever it is, it's driving me nuts!
