Work, CSI, Serenity

Bit of a tiring week really, but I'm not sure why. We've got this event we're doing with the BBC in May and we sent out the industry invites today. It's a big, big deal, so we've already had quite a few replies, and things are going to be even more hectic once space starts getting tight. The invites to officials and Peers are going out on Monday morning, and then invites to MPs are going out .. well, once we have some MPs.

We started a new database at work too, preparing for the new intake of MPs. I've never seen J and N who I work with so enthused by anything. Usually databasing is the work we do when we're trying to avoid tasks we really loathe, but yesterday they were all "can we do databasing!! Let's set up the new database so we can get started now!!" And they were doing it for hours today too. I managed to earn a few much-needed brownie points by setting up said database on Access so boss MJ didn't have to do it.

So anyway, things were either "... nothing to do ... *wait wait wait*" or "ahrg toomuchtododeadlinefastapproachingmustrush!" I much prefer option two. I work best when I have a tight deadline. It's all good really. Well, mostly. I was grr-ing and ahrg-ing on Thursday morning, but then Thursday afternoon boss MJ *finally* - after just three months of working there - showed me the steps for setting up the spreadsheets and a whole bunch of boring work-related stuff. So it was mostly good after that.

Today was okay too. This event is hectic, but it's going to be a killer networking opportunity. Sadly I suck at networking, but if I was any good at it and ever fancied a job in the media, it would totally be the place to be. Chairmen and Network heads and all sorts of high level types. And we only sent out the invites at lunchtime.

Besides work, there's really not much going on. I finished Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell which is just fabulous in so many ways <3 If you haven't read it, I totally recommend that you do.

A few brief thoughts about last night's

I love Brass, even more now that I've seen this ep. Love love love. There wasn't much Nick, not that much Warrick, no anyone else, but heck, there was Brass! And I love Ellie too, so it was all good. CSI:LA anyone? I thought they'd said no more splitting the franchise, but it felt like an almost-crossover to me. Hmm. But still, that LA cop friend of Brass's was cool. I thought she might be a bit Mary-Sue suddenly-introduced-but-never-mentioned-before-old-friend, which she was, but it worked. It was a bit more about the detective side of things and especially the personal side for Jim than the forensics, but now and then that's okay. So in short - <3.

I bought my bus ticket from Woking to Heathrow for next Friday. Just think, this time next week we'll all be sat around in the Thistle talking about ... probably gay porn. Heh.

Tomorrow, however, I must go to my grandmother's for it is her birthday. And also St George's day. Happy England Day, English folk.

Your job sounds very exciting!

I finished Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell a couple of weeks ago - it is fabulous isn't it! Very strange.

Just think, this time next week we'll all be sat around in the Thistle talking about ... probably gay porn. Heh.

OMG yay! Have you seen that Adam Baldwin has cancelled. Ah well.

I'm going to get my train tickets tomorrow (note to self: remember to find rail card out). What time are you getting there? I think I'll end up at Heathrow at about one o'clockish.

Hah. It isn't. Trust me.

Strange, but in the sort of way that once you've accepted the concept, it all totally makes sense. I love the ending though. So not what I expected, but so very right :)

I saw that AB had cancelled, yes. Not unexpected, but sad. Good luck to Sean finding someone else in a week!

I'm pretty much entirely flexible. I'll have to get cash and food here before I leave, but that shouldn't hold me up too much. I need to check the train times actually, now I think about it. I can be there whenever. I don't know when we can get into the hotel rooms - I think 2pm or so, so I was planning not to arrive before then, but if you're getting there at 1pm I can too. It's pretty open. Trains and buses run every half hour. Waffle waffle. Sorry, I'm being distracted by Boris Johnson on Newsnight.

The ending was great - unexpected, but it totally fitted with the rest of the book.

Getting cash and food is a priority I think!

I guess if I get to Heathrow between one and half past then I'll not be at the hotel much before two - is it about fifteen minutes there on the bus? I'll have another proper look at train times tomorrow. My brain hurts.

Alas, there is no TV in my room so I cannot marvel at Boris.

Exactly. It was great.

Definitely a priority, especially cash. Food I could buy there if I had to, but there's no cash machine unless you go back to Heathrow, or at least there wasn't last time I was there. It has been a while, things have probably changed quite a bit.

I think it's about 15 mins yes. There'll likely be a queue at around 2pm, or whenever it is we can check in, anyway.

Aah, he's finished now anyway, but most amusing. Most amusing. And his dad is just like him! It's frightening.
